Sustainability targets to 2030
Following on from the specific ten-year targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and waste production and the consumption of energy and water used in production completed in 2020, CSR has broadened its approach for a new set of targets to 2030 to cover key areas of energy and emissions reduction, procurement, packaging, minimising water use and waste and preserving biodiversity.
Targets to 2030
- 50% of electricity generated by renewable energy
- 20% energy reduction (GJ) per tonne of saleable product.
- Zero waste to landfill - CSR packaging to be closed loop (either 100% reusable; recyclable; compostable) with a 75% reduction in solid waste to landfill.
- 30% reduction of potable water consumed (ltr) per tonne of saleable product.
- 30% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (CO2e) per tonne of saleable product.
- Enhanced biodiversity outcomes on all CSR sites and developments. 5% of indirect spend by Procurement to be spent with social enterprises.
Each business unit will be reviewing their road map to align their operations to these goals and these will be regularly reviewed by senior management and the WHSE committee
Reporting
CSR reports on a range of data to the Federal Government under the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting scheme and the National Pollutant Inventory. All data is publicly available through the CSR Sustainability Report under Community and Sustainability and the National Pollutant Inventory database
Environmental Initiatives
CSR strive to continually reduce its impact on the environment. Initiatives include undertaking life cycle analyses of CSR products such as the Hebel brick, to understand where the environmental impacts occur along its manufacturing process and how these impacts may be addressed; through to taking waste plasterboard from building sites and recycling at our Wetherill Park factory thereby reducing the need for raw material as well as the amount of plasterboard being disposed to landfill. Please refer to the CSR Sustainability Report under Community and Sustainability to review measures that have been implemented.
Australian Packaging Covenant
Smarter packaging, less waste, cleaner environment. As a signatory to the Australian Packaging Covenant, CSR Building Products Ltd, is committed to reducing its environmental footprint and by extension the amount of waste, including packaging waste, that may be disposed to landfill.
